EPI Named Employer of Choice for the Eighth Time in 2025

posted on Monday, September 15, 2025

At Exceptional Persons, Inc. (EPI), creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and empowered isn’t just a goal—it’s part of who we are. This year, we’re proud to share that EPI has been named one of The Courier’s Employers of Choice for the eighth time.

This recognition shines a spotlight on what makes EPI truly special: our people. From direct support professionals to administrative staff, every team member helps build a culture rooted in compassion, innovation, and purpose.

“There’s an energy here fueled by passion for our mission and making a difference in this world. Work with a true purpose—it’s something pretty incredible,” shared Katie Slade, Executive Director.

What Makes EPI Stand Out
Employers of Choice honorees are selected based on employee nominations—real voices sharing what it’s like to work here. This year, our staff highlighted the sense of belonging, professional growth opportunities, and dedication to innovation that set EPI apart.

One employee described EPI as “a place where you feel supported, appreciated, and empowered to make a difference.” Another shared, “Working here, you have a sense of family—everyone is genuine and caring. We support each other.”

“They cultivate the kind of environment where they encourage you to grow in your role, no matter if you work in admin or in direct service,” said Madi.

Melanie added, “EPI is innovative—always striving to do better and reach even further to help the people we support accomplish any goal or achieve any dream.”

“From our Executive Director down, they strive for employee mental health as well as personal growth,” shared Jeffrey.

And as Megan put it, “I am proud to be part of an organization where every effort counts.”

These voices echo a common theme: EPI is more than a workplace—it’s a community. We celebrate wins big and small, encourage professional development, and foster a culture where every person’s contributions matter.

“This award is special because it reflects the voices of our team,” said Sara Drish, Human Resources Director. “When employees share that they feel supported, valued, and inspired here, it confirms that we’re living our mission not only in the community but within our own walls.”

A Legacy of Impact
With nearly 300 employees, EPI provides a wide range of services—from empowering individuals with disabilities to delivering enriching child care and resources for families across Northeast Iowa. Our mission—to connect people, create opportunities, and nurture growth—comes to life every day through the dedication and compassion of our team.

As we celebrate this eighth recognition, we remain committed to evolving, listening, and leading with heart. We’re proud of the work we do, but even prouder of the people who make it possible.

Thank you to our incredible team for making EPI a place where purpose meets passion. Here’s to continuing the journey together.
