This year, DSP Recognition Week takes place September 13-19, 2026, and at EPI, we're proud to recognize the individuals who help people live, work, learn, and thrive in their communities. Every day, DSPs build relationships, encourage independence, celebrate achievements, and provide support that helps people reach their goals and live meaningful lives.
What Is a Direct Support Professional?
Direct Support Professionals, often called DSPs, provide direct, hands-on support to people with disabilities in a variety of settings. They assist with daily living activities, community involvement, employment goals, personal growth, transportation, relationship-building, and so much more.
While the duties may vary, one thing remains the same: DSPs empower people to live their lives on their own terms and pursue the goals that matter most to them.
Their work is meaningful, challenging, rewarding, and essential to creating inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to belong.
Why Do We Celebrate DSP Recognition Week?
DSP Recognition Week celebrates the dedicated professionals who support people with disabilities in living, working, and thriving in their communities.
At EPI, we recognize DSPs because they are at the heart of our mission. Through their compassion, encouragement, and advocacy, they make a lasting difference in the lives of the people we support and their families.
What Makes our DSPs Exceptional?
What makes our DSPs exceptional isn't just what they do. It's how they do it.
It's the patience shown during a difficult day. The encouragement offered when someone is working toward a goal. The flexibility to adapt when plans change. The genuine relationships built through trust, respect, and consistency.
These everyday actions may not always make headlines, but they make a lasting difference in the lives of the people we support and their families.
How EPI Is Celebrating
EPI is celebrating with two drive-thru breakfasts and a staff ice cream social sponsored by Community Bank & Trust.
It's our way of thanking the dedicated staff whose compassion and commitment make a difference every day.

Thank You, DSPs
To the DSPs everywhere: thank you.
Thank you for your compassion, your patience, your flexibility, your advocacy, and your commitment to helping others achieve their goals.
Thank you for showing up each day and making a difference.
What makes our DSPs exceptional isn't one moment, one achievement, or one act of service. It's the countless ways you support, encourage, and empower others each day.
This week and every week, we're grateful for all you do.
