Your Support Creates Independence

"EPI got me to where I am today. If it wasn't for them, I'd be lost."

At just 18, Jessica stepped into adulthood, facing the daunting realities of finding housing, securing a job, budgeting for daily expenses, and building relationships. It’s a lot for anyone to take on. That’s when EPI stepped in, offering the guidance and support she needed to begin her journey toward independence.

Jessica started out in a group home with nine roommates, learning how to navigate shared spaces, household responsibilities, and moments of privacy. Over time, she transitioned to a smaller residential setting with just three roommates. Jessica found meaningful employment and developed essential life skills, like preparing her favorite meal from start to finish and sharing it with friends. Each step brought her closer to the life she had always dreamed of.

Driven by her desire for greater independence, Jessica worked with EPI staff to reduce her support from daily to just a few times a week. She moved into an apartment with one roommate, and eventually into her very own space, decorated just the way she likes it. Today, she enjoys the peace and quiet of living alone, and the joy of hosting friends and family whenever she chooses. One of her proudest accomplishments? Adopting her beagle, Gracie—“the love and joy of my life.” Jessica even enrolled in obedience classes at PetSmart to become a confident, responsible pet parent.

"I love working at Buffalo Wild Wings. I love the management and the team I work with." Jessica has also built a thriving career at Buffalo Wild Wings, where she’s worked for the past seven years. Thanks to EPI’s Supported Employment Services, she found a job she loves and a team that values her. One of her favorite memories is when coworkers began coming directly to her instead of through her job coach—proof of her growing independence and confidence.

Recently, she also began using telehealth services, giving her instant access to staff support from anywhere, whether she’s at work, at home, or out in the community. She utilizes this service for employment support, goal tracking, and any additional help she may need. For Jessica, it’s peace of mind at her fingertips.

Your support has created independence for Jessica. Today, she’s thriving—caring for Gracie, traveling with her mom, shopping, working, taking the bus, and dining at her favorite local spots, Jassie’s Café and Steamboat Gardens. She loves the freedom to choose how she spends each day, knowing support is always there when she needs it.
