Beaming with Pride: A Story of Support, Purpose, and Growth

At EPI, we believe in listening closely, acting boldly, and supporting each person we support on their unique path. When Eric shared challenges he was facing in his home life, EPI listened—and acted quickly. Within weeks, Eric moved into a new living arrangement supported by EPI’s Daily Residential Services, where he began to flourish with the encouragement of staff and his new housemates.

When asked what living in the community means to Eric, he shared, "I have a lot of support, but I also have a lot of independence,” Eric said. “I haven’t had that my whole life.”

With this new stability in place, Eric set his sights on another personal goal: finding meaningful work. He partnered with our Employment Services team, and together they searched for a role that matched his interests and talents.

Eric has not only achieved his goals - he’s exceeded them. Today, he works a full-time job in security at the Isle Casino, volunteers at Americans for Independent Living, and is taking steps toward living on his own.

“It makes you feel really awesome,” Eric said. “I’m actually proud of myself and how far I’ve come.”

Staff describe him as "truly loving life" and "beaming with pride."

This incredible journey didn’t happen by chance—it happened because of the dedication, compassion, and teamwork of people across EPI. From referral and planning to daily support, and job coaching, Eric’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we come together to remove barriers and open doors.

“We create opportunities, and we facilitate opportunity,” said Nicole Ericson, EPI’s Community Development Director. “We believe in mutually beneficial relationships. People with disabilities bring passion and inspiration and an undying dedication to succeed. When they are supported and empowered to live, work, and grow—they shine.”
