EPI Named an Employer of Choice for the Ninth Time

"I couldn't ask for a better team to work with."

That simple statement, shared by an employee in their Employer of Choice nomination, captures what makes Exceptional Persons, Inc. (EPI) such a special place to work.

This year, EPI was recognized as one of The Courier's top Employers of Choice for the ninth time, an honor made even more meaningful because it comes directly from employee nominations. The award reflects the voices of the people who know EPI best, those who live its mission every day.

Across nominations, employees described a workplace where people are valued, supported, and empowered to grow.

One employee shared, "From day one, it was clear that employees are a top priority." Others highlighted EPI's commitment to employee well-being, praising leadership's focus on mental health, flexibility, work-life balance, and opportunities for growth.

Team culture was another recurring theme. As one employee wrote, "Everyone is committed to making a positive impact, and that shows in the way we support both the individuals we serve and each other."

More Than a Workplace
While the award recognizes EPI as a great place to work, many nominations pointed to something deeper: purpose.

Employees repeatedly spoke about the pride they feel in both the work they do and the people they serve. One employee wrote, "I truly see our mission and values lived out every day in the work we do," while another shared, "I'm always proud to share what I do and the impact we make."

Whether helping people connect to their communities, build independence, or achieve personal goals, employees described a shared belief that their work matters. As one nominator put it, "EPI provides not just a job, but an opportunity to contribute to something bigger."

That sense of purpose continues to shape EPI's culture and inspire its nearly 300 employees throughout the Cedar Valley.

Built by Exceptional People
For Executive Director Katie Slade, the award is a reflection of the people who make EPI's mission come to life every day.

"Receiving this recognition for the ninth time is incredibly meaningful because it comes directly from our employees," said Slade. "Their feedback reminds us that when people feel supported, valued, and connected to a purpose, they can do extraordinary things. Our employees are the heart of EPI's mission, and this award belongs to each of them."

Molly Burdess, EPI's Human Resources Director, agrees.

"We're incredibly proud that our team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to make a difference. Their dedication is what makes EPI such a special place to work," Burdess shared.

As EPI approaches seven decades of service, the organization remains focused on creating opportunities, fostering belonging, and strengthening communities throughout Northeast Iowa.
