Becoming Lighthouse Leaders

posted by Chris Sparks on Monday, July 2, 2012

EPI has embarked on a journey to become one of the first Lighthouse Leader agencies in the U.S. (we are just one of five organizations that can make this statement).

This is a unique opportunity to create an agency-wide leadership culture and unleash the worth and potential of every individual associated with EPI - from staff, board of directors, to individuals served.

“Leadership is a choice, not a position.” Dr. Stephen R. Covey wrote in his best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Powerful Lessons in Personal Change.

It’s this principle and so much more that is at the heart of the journey we are on. The 7 Habits embody the principles, mindset, skillset, and tools that help us develop enduring leadership.

As each individual engages with the material they begin to find a new sense of confidence and effectiveness - their capabilities will grow and so too will EPI.

Where will this work take us? The possibilities are endless....one vision that has us excited is the effect our creation of a culture grounded in effectiveness could have on the individuals we serve and the ripple effect we would like to see on society’s willingness to accept persons with disabilities.

As Dr. Covey says, “Leadership is communicating the worth and potential of others so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves.”

We’re just beginning this journey and we wish to invite you to join with us for our 55th anniversary and leadership day celebration to learn more.
