Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

As of 11.19.09:With the information available to us today regarding the state budget cuts, the following are answers to frequently asked questions.

Q. Is EPI in danger of closing?
A. Not in the near future. EPI has a strong history of managing conservatively and making financially responsible decisions.

Q. Will there be layoffs? Will our wages be reduced or frozen?
A. Nobody wants to think of this; however, the reality is 71% of our expenses come from compensation and benefits. If decisions of this nature need to be made, know they come after all other options have been explored. Any measures produced to reduce costs will be evaluated as they align with our mission as well as maintaining the health & safety and service quality needs of our vulnerable service recipients.

If you're interested in learning more about EPI's layoff policy, you can read the policy here.

Be In the Know

Q. Are we discontinuing all new purchases?
A. No, but we are more closely managing all spending to find cost savings. You may even see new purchases which have been determined absolute needs or that will be more efficient thereby creating a cost savings in the long run.

Q. Will any services be eliminated?
A. In EPI’s 52 years we’ve continuously entered and exited from service delivery – based on the demand for a service as well as the service’s financial stability. As we’ve always done, we’ll continue to closely manage any service operating at a loss to make sure the financial strain does not jeopardize other services or the organization as a whole.

Q.  How will this impact our health insurance?
A.  We don’t anticipate any changes to our health insurance until the annual renewal effective May 1, 2010. Much like previous years, we do anticipate some adjustments at this time due the unrelenting rise of healthcare costs. Please know we are dedicated to continuing our provision of affordable healthcare meeting the needs of employees.

Q.  When will we know if our job is in jeopardy?
A. If decisions of this nature need to be made, EPI’s practice is to provide 30 days notice to employees.
